Our very own Kaesy Russnak (TOWES Project Officer) will be facilitating a training session in Mozambique this October. Kaesy’s expertise in Essential Skills and his experience with facilitator, learner and test administrator training make him the ideal candidate to represent TOWES and BVC in this international development project. Kaesy will be facilitating this workshop alongside Denise Theunissen (BVC-Learner Success Services) and with the support of BVC’s International Education Department. This project is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency and is part of the Association of Canadian Community Colleges Education for Employment program. As part of an Essential Skill awareness and capacity building campaign, TOWES will deliver an information session for Immigrant Services Calgary this Friday. Using funds from the Essential Skills Workplace Services (ESWS) Project (an Office of Literacy & Essential Skills initiative), TOWES is able to provide no-cost Essential Skills (ES) services to employers. This allows organizations to integrate ES approaches for training, hiring and succession planning.
With Immigrant Services Calgary, TOWES will build off of the initial workshop to create a short training session targeting the specific skills required of the organization’s different service areas, ultimately to help employees increase ES levels relative to their on-the-job demands. This will allow Immigrant Services Calgary to add an additional level of competency to their service delivery model.
Immigrant Services Calgary is committed to learning more about Essential Skills and how an ES approach will benefit not only their organizational structure, but the clientele that they serve.

Check it out, and while you are there, take a couple minutes to complete a short on-line survey that asks: Who is incorporating workplace Essential Skills in their workplace and how; who isn’t and why; and what is still needed?
Tell us what do you think of WEM’s video series in the comments.
